About this site

It seemed like a good idea to give a little background about this site. Gatekeeperconsulting.com is a domain we’ve had registered for a long time, but done very little with other than hosting email. Someday the plan is to make a more serious business effort out of it, but I have not come up with that killer idea that makes you want to quit your nice, secure corporate gig and go work like crazy on your own yet.  BTW, the Gatekeeper name comes from the meaning of our family name: Yates.
Anyhow, after a little bit of time spent blogging on our parental bragging site, as well as helping some folks with some blogging efforts at work (none of which are visible from the Internet as yet), I’ve been itching to just setup a little playground area to write about topics of interest that don’t necessarily involve babies as well as play with the technology a bit.

Speaking of technology, a couple of plugs are in order if you like anything about this site. First of all, Wordpress rules! It is an amazingly slick piece of software built by people who really care about getting right. If you have any interest in blogging, I highly encourage you to check it out. There are lots of hosted options, and if you have your own PHP/MySQL enabled web space to play with you can literally have it up and running in less than 5 minutes. For this site, that hosting space is provided by phpwebhosting.com, which is a phenomenally good deal for $10/month. You get basically unlimited space and bandwidth, plus a shell account and all the tools you’d probably want on a Linux web server. Good stuff all around. They are also very responsive in their (email only) support.

If you are still reading, that means I haven’t bored you to death talking about the technology. Maybe you’re interested in the content of what’s here. I plan to use it for whatever happens to tickle my fancy. This will likely include topics ranging from computer and networking technology to Christian apologetics, to current events. In addition, other friends and family members will have accounts that enable them to post what they are interested in. Hopefully it will be quite a variety, but we’ll see. Hope you like what you see. If you do, links are always welcome, but please don’t make me beg. :)
